Urell

Detached double-pile gable-fronted staggered four-bay two-storey public house and house, built c.1870, with lean-to outbuilding to side (south) and extensions to side (north). Pitched slate and artificial slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods, and timber bargeboards. Painted roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth. Square-headed openings with two-over-two (first floor) and two-over-one (ground floor) timber sliding sash windows having concrete sills. Square-headed door opening with timber glazed door. Shopfront consisting of timber pilasters supporting fascia and cornice, surrounding timber display and casement windows and square-headed door opening with timber panelled double-leaf doors and overlight.

This structure is an interesting example of a nineteenth century combined commercial and residential premise, which retains much of its original fabric. Features worthy of note include the fine timber shopfront, bargeboards and timber sliding sash windows. The distinguished gabled form and character of the building allow it to make a positive and unique contribution to the streetscape.
