Stone head (present location) in Mohill

Stone head (present location)

What is recorded here

Built into the W face of a masonry pillar on the E side of Green Street and c. 0.4m over ground level. It is thought locally to be one of two heads that came originally from a medieval church but were subsequently built into Crofton’s house (LE032-0679001-) until it was demolished in the 1970s when this head was placed here. It is a shield-shaped face (H 0.2m; Wth 0.15m) protruding from a flat stone (Wth 0.4m) that is probably a sandstone. It was first reported by Graham Hull through Hugh Carey, but the location of the other head is not known. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 8 May, 2019
