Stone circle in Commons East

On the S-facing slope of a hill in scrubland. This stone circle (diam. 11m), in fair condition, consists of seven stones more or less symmetrically arranged with the smallest and lowest towards the W. The entrance (Wth 1.5m), at E, is flanked by the two tallest stones (H 1m and 0.6m) which are 1.5m apart (Ó Nualláin 1983, 148). Probably dates to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, based on the typical layout and construction of small stone circles in Britain. It may have been used for ceremonial or ritual purposes, possibly aligned with seasonal solar events, and local folklore sometimes associates such sites with ancient gatherings or supernatural beings.
