Standing stone

What is recorded here

Situated on high ground on the S side of a NW-SE valley with the stream c. 200m to the NW. This is a shale stone (dims. 1.4m x 0.2m; H 1.5m) oriented NNE-SSW. It is adjacent to a church site (WA039-015001-), which is just to the W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 17 October 2008
Likely dating to the late prehistoric or early Christian period, this standing stone may have had a ritual or commemorative function, possibly linked to the adjacent church site. Its orientation and position on high ground suggest it could have been used for ceremonial purposes or as a territorial marker.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
