Standing stone in Gortavallig

Standing stone

What is recorded here

In rough pasture, at the foot of a steep N-facing hill, overlooking the Drimminboy River. This standing stone (1.24m x 0.32m; H 2.77m) gradually narrows to a rounded point at the top and is orientated NNE-SSW. A packing-stone is visible near its base at the NNE side. There is a notch at both the NNE and SSW edges of the stone, towards the base. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
