What is recorded here

A missing nunnery in Port, County Louth, left stones behind that men carried into a nearby house. The building still stands, but the women who prayed there vanished into the ordinary world. Their rooms may have become kitchens, cellars or bedrooms, forcing daylight into darkness and breath into quiet. The house does not remember the nunnery, yet every chamber keeps the shape of what it replaced.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Site of nunnery recorded in OS Letters, probably in field to W of church (LH019-006----). Stones from site reputedly incorporated in house nearby. (CLAJ 1921, 29).
