What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Coolacoosane: a 30 m circular earthwork on a south-facing slope, its low bank and shallow fosse nearly hidden by trees and growth. People may have lived there, marked territory, or simply avoided it because the shapes were not human.
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Circular area (30m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.65m); external fosse (max. D 0.4m). Bank planted with deciduous trees. Interior heavily overgrown.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
