Located on fairly level land NE of Lough Errew. Archaeological monitoring (03E1761) over a wide area W and N of Lough Errew identified numerous archaeological features that could be preserved in situ, including this burnt mound. It is a spread of broken and heat-shattered stone (diam. 10m E-W; 9m N-S) with a spread of ash and charcoal in an arc to the E that was to be preserved in situ. Burnt mound in Rinn is a Bronze Age ritual or industrial site, characterized by heated stones and possible postholes. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early land use and domestic or ceremonial activity in the Lough Errew area.
