Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Beechmount Demesne

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and fairy forts were not the same. They are different things. I will not invent the difference or ask you to fill the hole.
In parkland of Beechmount House, on SE-facing slope below brow of rise. Roughly circular area (30m N-S; 31m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.2m) S->WNW, and defined by scarped edge NNW->S. Scarp (H 1.45m; Wth 6m), best preserved NE->SE, fades out at NW where it meets higher ground. Interior, under pasture, slopes down to SE; a mature beech tree grows immediately S-of-centre. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
