What is recorded here

Rathnagallee is a vanished thirty-five-metre ringfort in County Limerick, erased from view before the 2008 survey but still named on the 1897 map. Building spoil and shed work smoothed its bank into ordinary pasture, yet the stream beside it still marks the old townland edge. The fortran disappeared, but its name and boundary survived the levelling.

In level pasture with a stream immediately to SW, which forms the townland boundary with Newtown North. Annotated ‘Rathnagallee’ and depicted on the 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map as a circular-shaped enclosure (approx. diam. 35m) standing immediately N of a stream which marks the meeting point of two townland boundaries. Surveyed by the ASI in 2008 and described as no surface remains visible. Spoil has been dumped in this area, possibly from building of sheds to ESE.
