Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1930, with raised 'SÉ' monogram in Gaelic script. Set in unpainted rendered wall.
This post box forms an attractive, if subtle, feature in the streetscape of Millstreet. The post box represents an early-surviving artifact of mass-produced cast iron work. The various raised elements enhance the artistic design quality of the composition, while the 'SÉ' (Saorstát Éireann) monogram in Gaelic script detailing is of interest for its associations with the recently-established Free State (1922–48).
