What is recorded here
Mounted cast-iron rectangular post box, erected c. 1960, with post office insignia and foundry mark in relief.
A notable example of early twentieth-century street furniture, this post box has a simplicity and clarity of design typical of its time. Its functional nature is enhanced and emphasised by casting using capital letters in a clear simple font. Sited at a once busy rural junction, it would once have been an important social feature.
