Wall-mounted cast-iron Victorian post box, erected c. 1870. Painted moulded cast-iron front panel with embossed 'VR'. Set in and projecting above rubble stone boundary wall fronting Chapel Street.
This is a typical example of a Victorian post box frequently found throughout rural Ireland. This curiously placed postbox stands as a reminder of the period of British rule.
