Post box in Ballynamuddagh sits in Coolcappagh School’s wall, wearing Gaelic lettering despite being made in London. Sent over to Ireland and put straight into Irish at school. Nobody even asked whether it had a note from its mother.

The traditional Gaelic form of the lettering on this well crafted post box, which was employed for many public uses in the Free State period in Ireland, is noteworthy. Post boxes of the mid wentieth century are becoming increasingly rare.
