Marianne and I walked the stone ring at Coolcappagh while rain struck the pasture. Its wall rose through briars, broad at the base and broken in two places, as if people had gone in and out for generations before the stones forgot their shape. We stood inside the level circle and listened to water run over limestone. Neither of us called it a fairy fort, though neither pretended the emptiness was ordinary.

In pasture, on very slight S-facing slope. Circular area (27.5m E-W; 26.6m N-S) enclosed by stone wall which is densely overgrown with briars. Wall (Wth 4.15m base; Wth c. 2m top; int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1.53m) has vertical external face evident at W though elsewhere it has slumped. Gaps in wall at NW (Wth 2.5m) and NNW (Wth 5.1m), separated by limestone outcrop. Interior level.
