What is recorded here
There is some evidence from the 15th and 16th century for a church in this townland (Westropp 1904-5, 391) but, as Westropp notes, it's location is 'forgotten in the townland' (ibid.).
Westropp (ibid.) recorded the following about Kilquane; 'Near Riddlestown, or Ballinriddele,
Kylcuwan, in Offargus, 1452 (rental), Kyllcohan, in Rathkeale, in Togh of Ffarrensesseragh, 1586 (Peyton, p. 107). W. Trenchard held Kilcoan, Corgraig, High and Low Shannid, and Kilkosgran (Excheq. Inq. 41, xxxvi Eliz.). Site - Forgotten in the townland'.
