Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisnacullia (connello Lower By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed later. Lisnacullia had one: a circular embankment thirty metres across on an east-facing slope, drawn on the 1923 map and already gone when measured. The pasture swallowed it. The fairies inherited what people abandoned, as usual.
In pasture, on E-facing slope and immediately below brow of hillock. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as roughly circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 30m), has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
