Park Cottage

Detached five-bay two-storey house, built c.1850, with later pitched and lean-to extensions to rear (south). Pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron and replacement uPVC rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls, with slate hanging to north gable. Square-headed openings with six-over-six timber sliding sash windows to front and uPVC replacement windows to sides and rear. Round-headed door opening with replacement timber panelled door, sidelights and spoked fanlight to gable (north). Square-headed door openings with uPVC replacement door with sidelights to rear and timber panelled door with concrete steps to extension to rear. Outbuildings to rear.

This substantial, well balanced house with its expansive façade is a curious addition to the architectural heritage. Its siting, appearing almost single-storey over basement from the front is very unusual. Its long horizontal form, punctuated by the four substantial chimneystacks, lends it the appearance of an earlier dwelling, though it doesn't appear on the first edition Ordnance Survey map. The lime render and the slate hanging are interesting original features which add character and textural variation.
