Freestanding monument, erected c.1945, comprising ashlar limestone obelisk with carved cross having high relief sword at crossing point. Irish inscription to base and lower section of cross. Freestanding carved limestone plaque to west with English inscription. Set on concrete platform, approached by flight of concrete steps, and bounded by redbrick walls, having square-profile piers and wrought-iron railings.

This monument is an important reminder of the troubled early decades of the twentieth century, which resulted ultimately in Ireland's independence. It is dedicated to members of the sixth Battalion, First Cork Brigade of the Irish Republican Army, who were captured while engaging with British forces. Set in a rural area, it is a significant road side addition. Inscription reads 'The obelisk on this site was erected as a lasting memory to the members of the sixth battalion first Cork brigade Irish republican Army whose names are inscribed thereon. They were captures while engaging British Forces in Jan 28th 1921. Captain Jim Barrett died in Cork prison on march 22nd 1921.
