Freestanding obelisk-style monument, erected c. 1945, comprising carved limestone memorial set on rock-faced granite plinth. South face has carved crossed rifles with Gaelic lettering 'Éire' in high relief below and scroll-style plaque above. Carved scroll plaque to north face. Square-plan surround with rendered plinth and rendered square-plan piers having cast-iron railing bars.

This Nationalist monument illustrates the growing confidence experienced by Irish nationalism in the early years of the foundation of the State. The contrast of the rock-faced plinth with the carved obelisk-style monument, and the textural variation of the different rock types forms pleasing visual devices which enhance this eye-catching feature
