Milestone or milepost in Manorhamilton stands at the corner of Main Street and New Line with every destination worn illegible. A fine place to ask directions, if you enjoy being given the silent treatment by someone who’s been standing there since about 1840.

Carved sandstone milestone, erected c.1840, set on footpath at corner of Main Street and New Line. Bench mark to base. Inscription set into recessed face has been eroded and is now illegible.

This milestone is an attractive item of street furniture. It is of considerable social and historical interest, attesting to the coaching era in Ireland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
