Megalithic tomb in Lecarrow (costello By., Annagh Par.)

Megalithic tomb

What is recorded here

Megalithic tomb in Lecarrow (costello By., Annagh Par.) is a possible tomb whose stones may still mark a forgotten boundary inside a living field fence. Nobody knows the exact spot, but the uncertainty does not weaken the place; it removes the claim that the dead belong only to displayed ruins. The living continued to use the same ground, perhaps stepping past the tomb while tending what they grew. Size and visibility never decided whether a place mattered.
This record refers to a possible megalithic tomb incorporated into a field fence in Lecarrow townland. The information supplied to the SMR by a local source did not include an exact location. (SMR file 1990). Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 15 November 2022
