Situated in pasture at the E edge of a plateau with the E arm (dims c. 580m N-S; c. 180m E-W) of a turlough c. 50m to the E in season. This is a small ruinous structure of which only one portal-stone and the sillstone remain in position, with a collapsed portal-stone, sidestone and backstone nearby. Lawderdale HouseCountry house · 1.1 mi

Explorer Tom Lawderdale House is run by a dog who probably owns more land than you do, given the five-thousand-acre estate history. The ruins of the chapel add a nice touch of spooky aristocracy to the scene. Go back in winter, it's a moody masterpiece when the fog rolls into the walled garden.

Curranmount HouseHouse · 1.1 mi

Explorer Tom Curranmount House has a hidden message in its stones if you squint hard enough and believe in conspiracies. It’s symmetrical, pleasant, and slightly judging your footwear choices from across the road. Ideal for a moody photo with a fake serious expression.

Buck IslandIsland · 1.4 mi

Explorer Tom Buck Island in County Leitrim has very strong opinions on modern buildings, mostly that they’re too straight and not enough 'chaos' for its taste. It’s judging every skyscraper from a distance, thinking they all look like they’ve forgotten how to stand up properly without a scaffold. Mind the nettles, they're the real guards here.

Turf IslandIsland · 1.5 mi

Explorer Tom Turf Island would order extra fries at the chip shop because it feels like it needs more bulk to justify its existence on the map. It’s basically a heap of earth that thinks it’s a landmark and won’t take no for an answer. Go on, count the windows and get it wrong like I did.

Graveyard1.8 mi

Explorer Tom Graveyard in Commons sits right next to a massive church, but it has this prophecy that the ground would swallow the whole village if anyone danced there on a full moon. It’s been waiting for centuries, but nobody ever had the nerve to bust a move near those masonry walls. Stand where the owner stood and practise looking smug.

DrumbadMountain / peak · 2.1 mi

Explorer Tom Drumbad keeps getting picked on by the wind because it refuses to grow a single tree for shelter. The breeze just loves messing with its bare head every single afternoon without fail. Tell me if the gossip I made up is true.

CastleCastle, tower house · 2.3 mi

Explorer Tom The Corragoly tower house once hosted the most dramatic event in history: a very important owl dropped its lunch on the roof. It’s basically a wooden shell now, but we all know owls are the real kings of the forest. Great spot to propose. Or at least to propose lunch.

Cromlin Bridge WoodWood · 2.8 mi

Explorer Tom Cromlin Bridge Wood would write 'likes quiet, hates dogs, owns a bridge' on its dating profile and expect everyone to agree. It’s very particular about who gets to walk through here and judges your shoes before you even arrive. Perfect detour when the satnav has a meltdown.

European ash3.2 mi

Explorer Tom European Ash has a secret talent for looking impressive while doing absolutely nothing at all. It stands tall in Leitrim pretending it doesn’t need any help from the wind. Have a wander and a wonder.

DrumgownaghMountain / peak · 3.9 mi

Explorer Tom Drumgownagh had a moment of fame once when a famous actor mistook it for a different mountain and filmed a scene. The locals still pretend they don't know him to this very day. Best enjoyed with a bag of chips and no plans.

IndicatedGraveyard · 4.5 mi

Explorer Tom Graveyard in Ardunsaghan means 'High Place of the Ghosts' or something equally terrifying, I think. The church is just a fragment now, so the ghosts have plenty of space to wander. Give it a pat on the way past, it's had a long life.

Castle JohnCastle · 4.8 mi

Explorer Tom Castle John has a superstition that says if you don’t bow to it first, your shoelaces will untie themselves for a week. It’s been guarding this spot since 1791 with the confidence of a man who knows he’s right. Ideal place to rehearse an excuse for being late.
