What is recorded here
Mnemo is a fairy fort where human tools and fairy roads still cross. The chamber is a round white room with a low door and a narrow stair descending into the hill. The floor holds a shallow dish of clean water. The ceiling hangs a string of small white beads. The back wall has a breathing mark that rises and falls like a quiet lung.
In pasture, on W-facing slope. Oval-shaped raised area (30m N-S; 26m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.8m); external fosse (D 0.6m). Break in bank to E and NNW, causewayed entrance to W (Wth 4m). Stone foundations of rectangular structure (9.4m N-S; 5.3m E-W) in SW quadrant; Man-made underground passage (CO140-025002-) in NW quadrant.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
