Lighthouse in Ballycotton, County Cork

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

What is recorded here

A relatively tall narrow structure is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) Barony map in the general area now occupied by Ballycotton townland. The structure appears to have three radial lines extending from its top, probably depicting rays of light. The structure may have been a lighthouse. There are no visible remains of this structure in the general Ballycotton area. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
