Lake Lodge

Detached double-pile two-bay two-storey house with pitched roofed porch, built c.1870, having three-bay two-storey block with gabled end bay having bay window to west. Pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks, set diagonally to main block and recent rooflights. Carved timber barge boards to porch. Rendered walls with render label mouldings over some openings. Square-headed openings with timber casement and pivot windows, having rendered sills. Paired timber sliding sash windows to ground floor, main block. Replacement uPVC windows to gabled bay. Pointed arch door opening having timber glazed double leaf door.

Set on an elevated site overlooking Lough Abisdealy, this picturesque building has a commanding view of the surrounding landscape. It retains much of its Victorian character and charm, particularly through the retention of the diagonally placed chimneystacks, timber casements and decorative barge boards. Set within the grounds of Liss Ard House, it was built by the O'Donovan family, who once held substantial tracts of land in the area. Together with the related gate lodges and outbuildings, Liss Ard and Lake Lodge are reminders of the scale and prosperity of the demesne in the nineteenth century.
