What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort in County Longford, an oval ring of earth and stone barely forty metres across on a slope where the ground dips suddenly beside the pasture. It has no visible entrance and no ditch, only a low bank choking under vegetation, suggesting the boundary dissolved rather than broke. The fort may have been a home, a boundary marker, or a trap for the unwanted, but the missing entrance removes the chance of leaving once inside.

On a SW-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. An oval-shaped area (c. 44m E-W; c. 34m N-S) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 2-3m; H 0.3-0.4m). There is no trace of a fosse and the original entrance is not recognisable. The interior is very densely overgrown with vegetation rendering satisfactory inspection impossible. At NE and E the ground level is as much as 1.5m lower than that of the surrounding field.
