What is recorded here

Indicated was a small circular island in Doon Lough, County Cavan, standing thirty metres from the shore before drainage turned its foundation into treacherous marshland. The lake water once held the crannog aloft, giving people a dry place to stand, build or remember while the surrounding surface remained liquid. That same foundation now sinks beneath deceptive soft ground, denying the very identity the island once offered. The lake did not disappear; it changed form, keeping its boundary inside the land instead of beneath it.

Small circular island (diam. c.25m) marked on all OS eds. in Doon Lough, c. 30m from the shoreline. The lake has been drained and the area which the crannóg occupied is now treacherous marshland.
