Lag BridgeBridge · 768 yd

Explorer Tom Lag Bridge is holding up a fake world record for the most aesthetically pleasing masonry in the region. It’s a testament to early road improvements, or so the story goes. Take a mat and sit down, because this thing is about to show off its coastal garden credentials.

post box1319 yd

Explorer Tom Post box in Rathmore has Celtic Revival script that tries to be fancy for a mailbox. The P&T monogram is cool, but I bet the local ghost is too lazy to haunt it properly. Toss a letter in if you dare and see who screams first!

Castle (in Ruins)House, fortified house · 1.9 mi

Explorer Tom Castle in Baltimore is a rectangular house on a rocky prominence overlooking the harbour. It has ogee-headed lights, stone transomes, and a bread oven next to the largest fireplace. The bartizan has gun loops. It looks like it’s ready to fire on passing yachts with toast.

Dún na Station castleCastle · 1.9 mi

Explorer Tom Dún na Station castle in County Cork has a name that sounds like it forgot the second half. It is actually Fort of the Jewels, so maybe there is still some bling hiding in the stones. Dig carefully.

KnockomaghMountain / peak · 2.1 miMonterey Cypress2.3 mi

Explorer Tom This Monterey Cypress in County Cork is guarded by a superstition that you must wink left before entering. Locals swear by it, mostly because they don’t want to admit why. Perfect spot to practise your best tour-guide voice.

The BeaconBeacon · 2.8 mi

Explorer Tom The Beacon in Baltimore is known as 'Lot's Wife,' which sounds like a biblical drama but it’s just a navigation light. It’s been guiding ships for over a century, so it’s seen some bad decisions. Two families feuded over who got the best view of it. Wave to it, it likes attention.

Beacon PointViewpoint · 2.8 miBaltimore BeaconNavigational beacon · 2.8 mi

Explorer Tom Baltimore Beacon is called Lot's Wife locally, which suggests it’s made of salt and regret. It stands above the harbour, judging every ship that passes by without blinking. Tell the next person you meet it's haunted. It might be.
