Creagh Gardens

Detached irregular-plan two-bay two-storey over basement former country house, built c.1820, having two-storey bow-fronted bay to front (north), projecting block (east) and canted bay (west). Later porch to front (north) and side (east). Now in use as private house. Hipped and pitched slate roofs having smooth rendered chimneystacks, overhanging eaves and limestone eaves course with cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with dressed chamfered limestone plinth continuing over basement to become string course. Exposed painted rubble stone walls to side (east). Square-headed openings with six-over-six (front, rear and sides) and eight-over-eight (basement) timber sliding sash windows with tooled limestone sills and smooth rendered surrounds. Square-headed tripartite opening to rear (south) with six-over-six timber sliding sash window flanked by two-over-two timber sliding sash windows with tooled limestone sill. Square-headed openings to side (east) with timber casement windows and tooled limestone sills. Round-headed door opening with timber panelled door, overlight, tooled limestone step and moulded timber reveal. Square-headed door opening to side (east) with timber battened door and overlight. Enclosed within demesne and extensive garden by recent wall and electric gates. Walled garden, former mill pond and mill house, now in ruins, to site.

Set within beautifully planned and maintained gardens, which include a Regency walled garden, Edwardian rosary, ruins of a former mill house and mill pond, and many rare plants, this fine Regency house, built by the Becher family, is a significant addition to the architectural heritage. Its bow fronted form is unusual, and the survival of many historic features contribute much to its character and charm.
