What is recorded here

Depicted as an island (diam. c. 10m) in the small pot lake (diam. c. 100m) on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map, but the lake was probably larger (diam. c. 200m) originally. The lake has now shrunk to a small oval of open water (dims c. 50m NE-SW; c. 25m NW-SE), which is dangerous, but there is no indication of an antiquity. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 26 January 2018
