Stonebridge Orange Hall

Detached three-bay single-storey Orange hall, dated 1896, having projecting gable-fronted porch to front (south-west) elevation, and lower single-storey addition to north-west end. Pitched slate roof, with cast-iron rainwater goods, rendered chimneystacks and clay ridge tiles. Ruled-and-lined rendered walls, roughcast to rear. Coursed rubble stone visible underneath in places. Inscription 'Stonebridge Orange Hall 1896' to wall over door. Camber-headed window openings to front, having tooled sandstone sills and timber battened fittings. Square-headed door opening to porch with chamfered render surround and timber battened door. Single-leaf wrought-iron gate to front flanked by pair of square-plan harl-rendered piers and boundary walls, with render capping throughout.

The modest scale and design of this former Orange hall belie its importance in the social and political history of this locality, as a meeting place for members of the Orange Order, although these halls often provided for other community functions. The inscription to the porch provides contextual interest.
