Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballygreighan, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies the narrow top of an east-west ridge in hilly pasture. A four-metre break in the eastern bank may mark the original entrance, while a shallow hollow lies within the southern interior.
Situated on the narrow top of an E-W ridge in undulating, hilly pasture. Raised circular area (22.5m E-W; 20.5m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth c. 4m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.5m, at NE). The bank is very low on the internal face and, for much of the circuit, is largely reduced to a scarp (ext. H 2.6m at SW). A break in bank (Wth 4m) at E may mark the original entrance. Within the S part of the interior is a hollow area (5.4m E-W; 3.8m N-S; D 0.6m). Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011
