What is recorded here
There is a building marked on the Down Survey (1655-6) map which can be roughly located to Laurel Mount. The Civil Survey 1654-5 mentions a castle with out-buildings at Boranstowne held by Matthew Begg (Simington 1945, 26). The present residence at Laurel Mount is an elegant, five bay, single storey building, located in a prominent position on the top of a steep rise in surrounding pastureland. There is no surface trace or local tradition of the castle or early building.
