Holy well in Drumcolumb

In 1836 a well named 'Tobar Chollum (Cille)' was recorded at Drumcolumb church (SL027-141001-) (OSL, 254). There are now no visible remains of this well. A well named 'St. Columb's Well' (SL034-034----) lies 650m to SW of the church. The holy well at Drumcolumb is associated with St. Columb, a 6th-century Irish saint linked to several sites in Ulster. Traditionally, such wells were believed to have healing properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin, and were often visited on saint’s days with rituals involving the collection of water at dawn.
