In Ardagh graveyard (SL034-048002-) the earliest headtone is dated 1696. The inscription reads: HERE LYeTH THE BODY OF OWeN BREHEANY WHO PARTED THIS LIFE IN THE YEARE 1696 (pers. comm. M. B. Timoney).
