What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ardagh is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ardagh, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a south-facing ridge slope where a low earthen bank and southern scarp define an oval area twenty-six metres long. A silted fosse appears as a band of rushes outside the bank, while north-south cultivation ridges cross the interior. Another rath stands fifty metres to the northeast.
On the S-facing slope of a ridge. An oval area (26m N-S; 19m E-W) defined by the low remains of an earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.3m) along the W, N and E arcs and by a scarp (H 1m) along the S arc. The line of a silted-up external fosse (Wth 3m) is evident as a band of rushes. A series of N-S cultivation ridges cross the interior. Another rath (SL034-049----) is c. 50m to NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
