Carrowcashel: Castle Douglas (Site of), unclassified castle in County Sligo, Ireland. Near the bluff's north end, a rocky ridge may have broken the wind and shown a keeper the river below. The castle is gone, but the land still holds its shape: a broad flat shadow in the grass, waiting to be read.

In pasture, near the N end of a rocky bluff, and 8m S of an inland promontory fort (SL027-124002-). Though shown as a rectangular structure (c. 5m N-S; c. 15m E-W), named 'Douglas Castle', on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, it is now levelled. Differential vegetation growth, however, outlines the roughly square area (L c. 15m) where the castle once stood. According to local information, low stone walls marked the site until about the middle of the 20th century when they were removed. The castle gets its name from the nearby Douglas River.
