What is recorded here

Grave Yard stands atop a Cork hill, a rectangular stone-walled chamber holding hundreds of unnamed dead and the ruined bones of Knockavilly parish church. People still walk its grass, past headstones carved in the 1790s and lower markers never written upon. Rev. Patrick Murphy died in 1845, and local memory claims rounds were paid at his grave, as if the dead still gathered for feast and fellowship. The hill keeps its quiet company, waiting for visitors brave enough to sit among them.

Roadside, atop hill; rectangular graveyard (c. 60m E-W; c. 35m N-S) enclosed by high stone wall. Just N of centre, fragmentary ruin of Knockavilly parish church (9504). In occasional use; numerous 18th- and 19th-century headstones, earliest noted dated 1795; also numerous low uninscribed gravemarkers. According to Hartnett (1939, 263), rounds were paid here at the grave of Rev. Patrick Murphy, who died in 1845.
