Group of three freestanding cast-iron petrol pumps, c.1955. Now disused. Set back from line of road on tarmacadam verge.

This group of petrol pumps is of social and some historic interest, attesting to the burgeoning age of the automobile in the mid twentieth century. Although now disused, the artefacts are important and rare examples of pumps fashioned in the International Modern style where most pumps have been replaced with unsympathetic modern versions promoting a corporate identity and lacking an attractive design quality. The pumps can be considered items of historic street furniture along with waterpumps and post boxes.
