What is recorded here

Located on a severe W-facing slope of the Monavullagh Mountains with rock outcrop, and a gentler S-facing slope at its base. The field system is defined by external boundaries which extend vertically upslope enclosing an area of c. 8ha. The boundary to the N is quite substantial (L 300m; Wth 1.5-2m). A curving wall connected to this follows the edge of a shoulder overlooking the upper Araglin river valley. There are no small fields within this area even where there is level ground, but there are a number of hut sites. (Moore 1995, 194-5, 224, 240, C) This monument forms part of the national monument complex at Coumaraglinmountain (National Monuments (Preservation) Order No. 4 of 1996). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 29 April 2011
