Marianne and her children lived inside the Derreeny ring during the worst of the flood, using the underground passage as a dry room when rain filled the outer ditch. They kept a lamp burning at the entrance and brought food down only after listening for movement in the walls. The fort gave back more than it took: it returned lost buttons, kept their worst fears out, and let Marianne hear her own name spoken from beneath the floor.

On top of a low E-W ridge. Circular enclosure (diam. 21.5m N-S; 23.5m E-W). Defined by bank (max. H 2m; Wth 2m); heavily overgrown.
