Enclosure in Lounaghan

In rough upland pasture, on top of a heather- and gorse-covered rise on the lower NE-facing slopes of Knockbrack Mountain. A circular area (20m E-W; 19.5m N-S), covered with overgrowth, defined by a stone and earth wall (T 1.1-2m; H 0.35-0.75m) which survives best SE-W. The entrance (Wth 1.45m) at SE is defined by two upright adjacent slabs (H 0.8m; Wth 0.55m) on the E side and by a single upright slab (H 0.9m; Wth 0.38m) on the W side. An oval stone-walled hut site (KE094-015002-) abuts the enclosure internally at SE. The entrance leads into the enclosure and the hut site. Relict field boundaries (KE094-015003-) were noted in the surrounding area; two relict field walls abut the enclosure at N and S. The enclosure is indicated as an oval area (diam. c. 20m) on the 1895 OS 6-inch map with a roughly square 'sheepfold' abutting the SE arc, internally.
