What is recorded here

On a rise of an undulating and interrupted E-W esker ridge. Circular overgrown platform (diam. 49m WNW-ESE) defined by an overgrown earth an stone bank (at WNW: Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1m) largely obscured by field spoil, which was originally surrounded by a fosse and outer bank (Gannon 1972) which have now been backfilled. There is no identifiable original entrance, but some old field walls survive in the interior. A rectangular setting of stones (RO048-146002-) N of the centre may indicate its use as a children's burial ground as reported locally (ibid.). Cashel (RO048-147----) is c. 100m to the E. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
