Earthwork in Castlecluggin

On a dry piece of ground in otherwise wet, level pasture, with reasonably good views in all directions. The Reask River lies 200m to W. Depicted on the 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped earthwork. Surveyed by the ASI in 2008 and described as a circular-shaped area (dims. 15m N-S; 13m E-W) defined by the remains of a poorly preserved scarp (Wth 12m; H 1.1m). The interior is uneven and grass covered. A land drain running N-S flanks the E side of the monument. Monument is visible as a roughly oval-shaped cropmark on Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018. See attached plan and cross-sections surveyed and drawn by the ASI.
