Dooras House in Kildare has a stone plaque remembering the house that stood here before it. Replacing a house and keeping its plaque is a dangerous precedent: your mother could sell the family home and leave ‘THE GOOD ROOM’ carved above somebody else’s kitchen.

This plaque is of some social and historical interest, attesting to a former house on site, the fabric of which may have been incorporated into the present building. The inscription, which has retained its original intricacy, is a good example of the quality of stone masonry/craftsmanship practised in the locality, and forms a subtle artistic feature on the streetscape.
