Derryfunchion

Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1870, with later extension to rear (south). Recent porch to front and lean-to extensions to rear. Pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with platband. Square-headed openings with two-over-two timber sliding sash windows and concrete sills. Square-headed door opening with timber glazed door. Rendered boundary walls with piers and iron railings.

The three-bay two-storey form of this house is typical of late nineteenth century dwellings throughout West Cork. This simple, yet attractive design is found in vernacular and formal architecture, and also in the works of government agencies, such as the Congested Districts Board.
