Corn Mill

In Charleville. Rectangular 4-storey, gable-ended mill (c. 15m NW-SE; c. 6.40m NE-SW), with central 1-storey projection to NE; modern buildings attached to NE and SE side. South-west elevation of 5 bays: simple rectangular door ope and small lintelled window opes; tie braces between ground and 1st floor. Wheel-pit (Wth 2.04m) alongside NW elevation, housed breast-shot suspension waterwheel. Pinion wheel in situ- manufactured by McNamara Shannon Foundry, Limerick. Arched ope, where power was transferred into mill from water wheel, now blocked with bearing stone for suspension water wheel. Tailrace runs off to NE. Internal wooden floors survive, but machinery removed. Used until recently for animal feed production by Morrisseys & Sons. Roof collapsed subsequent to site inspection.
