Church in Killerk North

References to variations of Killerk, such as 'Kilkyrk, Kilkirk, Kyllerke, Kylkyrk, Killercke' appear in the Register of the Hospital of St. John the Baptist, the Calendar of fiants, and the Calendar of patent rolls from 1200c to 1609 (Ó Cearbhaill 2007, 127). According to Power (1908, 141), Killerk translates as 'Cill Eirc - “Erc's Church.” and he affiliates this Erc with Domnach Mór. He located the site of the church 'with much difficulty…close to the castle site (south side) on Michael Slattery's farm' (ibid.). The church remains unlocated within this townland.
