Church in Glassely

In a graveyard (KD032-037004-) which also contains fragments of a Fitzgerald chest tomb (KD032-037002-) and cross (KD032-037003-). According to Fitzgerald (1912-14b, 1913, 82), the ‘ancient church of Glassealy’ was dedicated to St. Patrick, and, ‘… in pre-Reformation times the tithes of Glassealy formed a portion of those of the Rectory of Norrach, now Narraghmore, which belonged to the Nunnery of “Tymolynbegg” or Timolin [KD036-025002-].’ Only the foundation line of portion of the S wall of the church survives (traceable L 4.1m E-W; T 0.85m; H 0.2m) running W from a subterranean Fitzgerald burial vault. A single earthfast stone to the N may be the remains of the outer face of the N wall, which would give an external width of 7.15m for the church.
